Autism awareness-raising training

Our awareness-raising training will increase your understanding of autism; developing your skills and confidence with practical strategies to better support autistic children, young people, adults and their families. We include understanding around the latest diagnostic criteria for autism, and the associated characteristics, as well as strategies to enable delegates to better understand and support autistic children, young people and adults.

Training can be delivered as full-day, half-day or twilight sessions with learning outcomes tailored appropriately.

OFSTED and CQC guidance advises professionals and carers to work in a person-centred way and to be creative in order to minimise behaviour that presents as challenging.

Who is the training for?

This training is designed to support professionals working with autistic children, young people and adults and their families. It is based on the most recent good practice guidance and parent/carers themselves as experts in their own experience.

By the end of the training, participants will:

  • Recognise the characteristics of autism
  • Understand the impact that unsupported and unmanaged autism can have on children, young people and their families
  • Understand the social communication difficulties associated with an autism diagnosis
  • Understand the rigid, repetitive behaviours associated with an autism diagnosis
  • Recognise the impact that sensory processing difficulties can have on an individual with autism
  • Consider the impact that autism can have on an individual’s mental health
  • Consider approaches to support autistic people around their mental health
